What to do if you forget your Windows password

What is a Password?

A password is a string of characters that people can use to log on to a computer and access files, programs, and other resources. Passwords help ensure that people do not access the computer unless they have been authorized to do so. In Windows, a password can include letters, numbers, symbols, and spaces. Windows passwords are also case-sensitive. To help keep your computer secure, you should always create a strong password.

What to do if you forget your Windows password

If you've forgotten your Windows password, you can reset your password by using a password reset disk or by using an administrator account. For more information, see Create a password reset disk or Reset your Windows password.

If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.

From Forgotten Password Wizard click Next button.

Choose your removable disk and click Next  button.

Now type Current user account password and click Next button.
